Nice, in brief

“Nice itself is sauna-led and discreet; the bigger dressed-up clubs sit a short drive west, toward Cannes and Mougins.”
Nice does not do the big-nightclub version of the lifestyle. It does the Riviera version: a handful of mixed saunas, one dressed-up lounge-bar club, and a francophone club libertin code where couples and single women set the temperature. If you're picturing a Paris-scale échangiste mega-club, you're picturing the wrong city — and probably the wrong town. The larger dressed-up clubs of the Alpes-Maritimes sit a short drive west, toward Cannes and Mougins.
The shape of the scene
Three of the city's four venues are clothing-optional saunas with a hammam, jacuzzi and cabins; only Le Boudoir Cosy Bar plays the late, dressed lounge-bar card, with a champagne bar, a pole, a mirror room and a dress code that actually gets enforced. The saunas mostly run daytime into early evening — Azur Sauna and Sauna du Chateau close by 19:00–20:30 — while Le Boudoir and Le Cercle carry the Thursday-to-Saturday nights.
The through-line is access by audience. Couples and single women walk in cheap or free; single men pay a premium and, in Le Cercle's L'Inside couples-and-trios room, get in only when a couple invites them. That isn't an accident of pricing — it's the structural way these rooms protect the people most likely to be hassled.
| Venue | What it is | Who goes | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Le Cercle | Mixed libertine sauna, west Nice (av. That's the honest texture of the place: a relaxed bathhouse with play space attached, not a dance floor.
If you want the cabaret-scale night out, the Alpes-Maritimes guides point you toward L'Absolu in Mougins (300 m2, daily cabaret) and the Cannes cluster — L'Anonyme, Le Vesper, L'Oustaou du Moulin in Le Cannet (voyage-insolite). Nice is the discreet end of a wider Riviera circuit. Myth and reality
The legal ground is settled. Swinger clubs are legal in France: a 1994 Penal Code reform removed 'exploitation of debauchery' from the law on proxénétisme, and a 1996 Cour de cassation ruling confirmed the line, so these venues operate openly within ordinary public-establishment, alcohol and hygiene rules. The 18+ door, photo ID, no phones in play areas, and France's criminal ban on filming or sharing intimate images without consent all apply. |

- Legal age is 18+; bring government photo ID.
- Legal status: Legal. Clubs operate as private, members-only venues.
- Consent is explicit and ongoing. Always ask; no means no.
- Photography is prohibited inside almost every venue.
- Swinger clubs (clubs libertins/echangistes) are legal in France. The 1994 reform of the Penal Code removed 'exploitation of debauchery' from the definition of proxenetisme (pimping), so operating a swinger club is no longer prosecutable as pimping; the Cour de cassation (Crim., 27 March 1996) confirmed the line, treating paid 'hostess' contact as the prohibited conduct rather than consensual group activity between adults. Clubs must respect the protection of minors (18+), consent and privacy - filming or sharing intimate images without explicit consent is a criminal offence in France - and comply with ordinary public-establishment, alcohol-licensing and hygiene rules. In Nice, mayoral public-order powers (the city is known for active municipal by-laws) apply to openings and nightlife like any other establishment.
