“The door is the filter. Once you're past it, Madrid is warmer and cheaper than the cities people compare it to.”
Madrid's liberal scene is large, affordable, and unusually format-diverse. Directory write-ups describe a circuit built on "stylish ambiance, friendly crowds, and exceptional privacy standards" and invite visitors to "embrace the open-minded spirit of Madrid's social scene" (World Red Light Districts). Two traits set it apart from Paris or Berlin: how openly it courts single women, and how publicly it puts trans inclusion on the calendar rather than treating it as a side door.
The other thing to understand before you go is that there are two completely different nights on offer, and they ask different things of you.
Two formats, one city
The scene divides into bar-style pubs and spa circuits. A pub is a clothed room with a bar, named nights, and play spaces off to the side. A spa is a wellness venue you enter undressed — pools, jacuzzis, saunas, towels, lockers, and "hot rooms" upstairs. Pick the wrong one and you'll spend the evening overdressed or underprepared.
| Format | What it is | Who goes | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pub liberal (Pub Triángulo, Eden Parejas) | Bar-led room, smart-casual, named theme nights, walk-ups | Couples, single women, and — depending on the night — single men | Several take no reservation; single women often enter free with a drink (Pub Triángulo) |
| Spa-club (NKD Naked Spa, Divernis, SalaTrivial) | Towel-and-locker wellness circuit with pools and saunas | Couples and bounded sessions (bi, women-only, men-only) | Naked Spa runs the week as separate sessions; Divernis opens from 11:00 (overview) |
| Exclusive club (Encuentros VIP, Fusion VIP) | Curated door, a different named night daily, dress code | Mostly couples; single men gated Fri/Sat | Encuentros VIP enforces "elegancia obligatoria"; bring it or don't come |
The pricing is the part that surprises visitors from northern Europe. Couples commonly pay 20–50 EUR with drinks included; single women routinely pay 10–15 EUR or nothing; single men pay the premium everywhere (often 30–80 EUR) and should read the per-night rules before turning up. SalaTrivial's open session, for one, lists couples at 30 EUR, single women at 10, and single men at 40, drink included (SalaTrivial).
Pub Triángulo advertises "entrada gratis con consumición para trans, CDs y mujeres solas" — free entry with a drink for trans guests, crossdressers, and women on their own. That line tells you most of what you need to know about who this scene is trying to make comfortable.
Geographically it clusters. The densest knot of venues sits east of Retiro park around Doctor Esquerdo and Adelfas — Encuentros VIP, Naked Spa, and Pub Triángulo are a short walk from O'Donnell and Pacífico metro, which makes that corner the obvious base for a first visit.
Who the door is for
Single-male access is the one rule that genuinely varies by venue and night, so don't generalize from one club to the next. Eden Parejas admits single men every open night. Naked Spa only on its "Open Bi" and "Only Guys" sessions. Encuentros VIP and Fusion VIP shut the door on single men Friday and Saturday. Pub Triángulo lists a singles rate but doesn't publish which nights — confirm before you go.
Myth: A swinger club in Spain is a grey-area business one raid away from closing. Reality: Consensual sex among adults isn't a crime in Spain, and these clubs are legal precisely because clients pay only entry and have sex solely with other clients — no sex workers. What the Código Penal punishes (Articles 187–189) is third-party exploitation and anything involving minors, none of which a members-and-guests club involves (legal framing).
Because the legal protection rests on the absence of paid sex, the corollary is simple and worth holding onto: any solicitation for paid sex inside a reputable club is a red flag and a reason to leave. Beyond that, the usual big-city habits apply — keep your details private until trust is built, mind your drink, watch pickpockets around Sol, Goya, and Pacífico, and arrange your own ride home.

Etiquette & law
- Legal age is 18+; bring government photo ID.
- Legal status: Legal. Clubs operate as private, members-only venues.
- Consent is explicit and ongoing. Always ask; no means no.
- Photography is prohibited inside almost every venue.
- Swinger / club liberal activity between consenting adults is legal in Spain. Spanish law does not criminalise prostitution or sex between consenting adults itself; what the Codigo Penal punishes is third-party exploitation - Article 187 penalises profiting from or exploiting another person's prostitution (even with their consent, where there is a relationship of dependence or abuse of vulnerability), Article 188 covers involving minors, and Article 189 covers child sexual material. Swinger clubs are lawful precisely because clients pay only an entry or membership fee and have sex solely with other clients, not with sex workers, so no proxenetismo (procuring) arises. The minimum age is 18; venues are licensed to serve alcohol. There is no national swinger-club statute - clubs operate under ordinary hospitality and municipal licensing, and exact single-male and zone rules are set by each house.
