Cali, in brief

“This is the rare Latin American scene where the cover is published in pesos and posted at the door — couples-first, but with a real lane for solos if you pick the right night.”
Cali is the salsa capital of Colombia and its third-largest city, and its lifestyle scene carries the same trait as its nightlife: it's commercial, it's out in the open, and it tells you the price before you walk in. The thing to understand first is the legal frame. Swinging between consenting adults is not a crime in Colombia — the Codigo Penal (Ley 599 de 2000) contains no offence for private consensual adult sex. The friction is municipal, not criminal: as El Tiempo has documented, the 'bares swinger' get challenged under land-use and Plan de Ordenamiento Territorial rules, for operating in residential zones and for missing construction, land-use and sanitary licences, because a 'swinger bar' category simply doesn't exist in zoning (El Tiempo). So the clubs are licensed and taxed as ordinary discotecas, the owners call them 'clubes privados,' and the practical upshot is this: real and openly advertised, but legally vulnerable. Confirm a venue is still operating before you build a night around it.
The lay of the land
There's no single red-light strip. The scene splits across two clusters on opposite sides of the centre, plus a private-party circuit that doesn't keep a fixed address.
| Venue | What it is | Who goes | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Voluptua | The most amenity-led club — pool with swim-up bar and waterfall, 20-person steam room, private rooms on the 2nd/3rd floors, nightly shows at 9pm and 11pm | Couples, single women (free if clothed), single men most nights | Beside Estadio Pascual Guerrero (Cra. 34 #5B1-35). Couples COP 75,000 incl. a bottle of rum or Valle wine; single men COP 40,000; Mondays clothing-optional, Saturdays couples-only (vymaps) |
| Atheneas | The longest-marketed 'best in the city,' a discoteca built over a wet area — Turkish bath, sauna, jacuzzi — with a full upper floor of private rooms | Singles Thursdays, couples Saturdays | Barrio San Vicente (Cl. 22 Nte. No. 2N-38). Reported COP 20,000–40,000 per person; old site atheneas.club has lapsed, so use the Facebook page to confirm (RestaurantGuru) |
| Erox (Erox Elite SW) | A third San Vicente club on Avenida 2d/2e Norte | Couples and singles | Listings conflict on address and phone and there's no live official site — confirm via its Facebook before relying on it (World Red Light Districts) |
| Eventos SW (private circuit) | Discreet, curated private parties rather than a fixed venue | Couples, capped crowds | Advertised at a maximum of 20 couples; runs its own calendar and Telegram/social channels (fiestaswinger) |
Prices here are quoted in Colombian pesos and are unusually well published for the region, several venues run a full pool/sauna wet area, and the legal status of the clubs is a municipal grey area even though swinging between consenting adults is not a crime in Colombia.
The single biggest thing to get right is which night you pick, because access and price swing by day. At Atheneas, Thursday is the singles night ('solos y solas') and Saturday is couples-only ('solo parejas'). At Voluptua, Saturday is couples-only with no solos, Monday is clothing-optional. Single women have the easiest path everywhere and are often free; single men are admitted — genuinely unusual for the region — but should target the right night and expect a separate, higher door.
Discretion is the house rule
Phones are banned inside, full stop. Cali Club's own house rules state cell-phone use is prohibited throughout the venue, and the same no-recording expectation runs across the city's clubs — so don't photograph or film. Spanish is the working language and English is unevenly spoken, so message ahead in Spanish (WhatsApp or the venue's social channel) to confirm the night's policy and the current cover, and carry cash. Use taxis or rideshare door-to-door between the San Vicente and Pascual Guerrero clusters rather than walking around late.
Myth: Because the clubs are openly advertised, they're solidly legal and here to stay. Reality: The act is legal but the venues aren't a settled category — they're licensed as ordinary discotecas and remain exposed to land-use and licensing action, so one can close or move with little notice (El Tiempo).
Beware stale and look-alike listings. Once-prominent pages drift out of date — caliclub.net no longer resolves cleanly and Atheneas' own atheneas.club domain has lapsed to a parking page even though the venue still operates. The safe move is to reach the club's real, current channel and verify before you travel to the door.

- Legal age is 18+; bring government photo ID.
- Legal status: The activity is legal; the venues are a grey area.
- Consent is explicit and ongoing. Always ask; no means no.
- Photography is prohibited inside almost every venue.
- Swinging - consensual partner-swapping or group sex between adults in private - is not a criminal offence in Colombia: the Codigo Penal (Ley 599 de 2000) contains no offence for private consensual adult sexual activity, and the country's age of sexual consent is 14 (Ley 599). The legal friction is not with the act but with the venues as businesses, which sit in a regulatory grey zone. As reported by El Tiempo, the recurring objections to 'bares swinger' are municipal, not criminal: they are challenged under land-use / Plan de Ordenamiento Territorial rules (operating in residential zones), for lacking proper construction, land-use ('uso del suelo') and sanitary licences, and under the Codigo de Policia for public-order and neighbour complaints; planning offices have noted that a 'swinger bar' category does not formally exist in zoning, so the clubs are licensed and taxed as ordinary entertainment venues (discotecas/bares) and the owners defend themselves as 'clubes privados' not open to the general public. The hard legal line that does apply is age: although the sexual-consent age is 14, the minimum age to enter these venues is strictly 18 because they sell alcohol and stage adults-only entertainment - Ley 124 de 1994 prohibits selling alcohol to minors and Ley 1098 de 2006 (Codigo de la Infancia y la Adolescencia) bars minors from establishments that sell liquor or offer adults-only shows. Treat the clubs as operating-but-grey: real and openly advertised, but vulnerable to municipal closure, so this status is flagged for review.
